Did you notice I never mentioned caps on Legendary Gems? If you have enough money, you can buy an unlimited number of Eternal Legendary Crests and use that to push your gear to levels that are quite literally impossible as free 2 play. So, we’ve established that there are a LOT of ways Diablo Immortal prevents you from grinding for levels and gear, but how much does that matter? Well, an awful lot as it turns out. There is even a cap to the amount of battle pass levels you can get for free per week. On top of this, there is a hard cap to the number of normal gems you can get for free per day, the number of hidden lair floors you can complete with rewards, the number of side quests that give you rewards, the number of runes and fading embers you can get for free from Elder rifts, and so so much more. That rate only goes lower as you get more legendary and set items on that day. The problem? Diablo Immortal soft caps your ability to get legendary and set items after the 6th drop on a given day. One of the biggest ways to progress in any ARPG is by getting newer and better gear or upgrades. It also hard gates the content you are able to complete. This means you can no longer upgrade your gear, put paragon points on your character, or obtain higher level gear. Once you hit the paragon cap, experience gain is slashed and goes as low as 20%.
There isn’t a single free to play progression method that doesn’t have soft caps.
The problem comes once you get to end game, and especially once you start hitting all of the game’s soft caps on free to play progression. There are some spots where the grind takes a minute for sure, but it never feels like you are capped. This game is really fun and rewarding and doesn’t at all feel pay to win during the main campaign as you make your way to level 60. So, I don’t know how serious this post is, but let me tell you from the perspective of a Paragon 38 Necro player who is top 10 in PvP, Challenge rifts, Cycle of strife, and raids for my server leaderboards.
